Called to the Malaysian Bar in 2018, Ms. Nur Liyana Izzati Binti Abd Aziz was made partner of Gibb & Co. in 2023 before joining Azhar & Goh as Co-Head of Banking & Finance Practice. Her rapid career progression reflects her specialised expertise in financial services law and her capability in handling complex commercial litigation.

In December 2025, Liyana assumed her current role as Head of the newly established Seremban Representative office in Negeri Sembilan, extending the firm’s presence and reach to serve the Malaysian public nationwide. This expansion reflects both her leadership capabilities and the firm’s commitment to making quality legal services accessible across the country.

Liyana’s practice concentrates primarily on general, banking and finance litigation and asset recovery matters. Her experience includes participation in landmark cases, notably as part of the team that represented a major financial institution at the Federal Court on the critical issue of defeasibility of a Charge security over a property due to its Malay Reserve Land status.

Uniquely positioned with expertise in Islamic banking, Liyana’s familiarity with Syariah laws enables her to advise clients on matters involving Islamic financial products and compliance requirements, addressing the growing demand for specialised knowledge in this sector.

She regularly appears as both Lead Counsel and as part of the legal team representing the firm’s clients across diverse and sophisticated matters and has demonstrated versatility across multiple practice areas. She has successfully acted as Lead Counsel in defamation matters, showcasing her broader litigation capabilities and her ability to handle sensitive reputational issues for clients. Her practice also encompasses general litigation matters, running-down cases where she represents individuals seeking compensation and conveyancing transactions, providing comprehensive legal support across both contentious and non-contentious matters.

Liyana holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Syariah Law and Practice from Universiti Teknologi MARA (Law Faculty), which underpins her expertise in Islamic banking and finance matters.
