EXPERIENCE
Ms. Lean Jie (Jane) completed her pupillage at Gibb & Co. (Penang) and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2020, where she was retained as an Associate within the firm’s Litigation Department. In 2023, seeking to broaden her professional exposure and deepen her expertise, she relocated to the Kuala Lumpur/Selangor region to practise with another firm before re-joining her former colleagues who had transitioned from Gibb & Co. to Azhar & Goh.
Currently serving as Partner and Head of Banking & Finance at the firm’s Kuala Lumpur branch, Jane brings valuable external experience that enriches the firm’s dispute resolution practice expertise. Her journey across different legal environments has equipped her with diverse perspectives and practical insights that enhance her ability to serve clients facing complex commercial challenges.
Jane’s practice focusses primarily on banking litigation and general civil litigation, where she has consistently secured favourable outcomes in contested matters for major financial institutions and individual clients alike. She regularly advises financial institutions on sophisticated banking disputes, including foreclosure proceedings, debt recovery actions, bankruptcy and winding-up proceedings, and claims alleging negligence against banking institutions. Her comprehensive understanding of financial services law enables her to navigate the intricate regulatory landscape while protecting client interests.
Jane’s approach to dispute resolution is characterised by practical strategic thinking that prioritises commercially sensible outcomes. She understands that litigation is not merely about winning cases, but about achieving results that align with clients’ broader business objectives and long-term interests. This client-centred philosophy, combined with her technical proficiency and tenacious advocacy, positions her as a trusted advisor for clients navigating Malaysia’s complex legal landscape.
