Mr. Kenny Chan Kean Li serves as Managing Partner and Head of the Executive Committee, overseeing both the Northern Region and Federal Territory offices. Called to the Malaysian Bar in 1997, he also holds the positions of Head of Appellate Advocacy and Co-Head of Corporate Commercial, bringing over two decades of comprehensive legal expertise to his multiple leadership roles.

His wide-ranging practice encompasses professional negligence, corporate and commercial disputes, land matters and construction litigation, with particular specialisation in Appellate Advocacy across multiple areas of law. Kenny frequently appears as Lead Counsel in complex matters, demonstrating his capabilities in handling high-stakes litigation at the highest judicial levels.

Multiple cases under his advocacy have been reported in the Malaysian Law Journals, reflecting the precedential significance of his work. Notable representations include appearing as Lead Counsel at the Federal Court on the critical issue of defeasibility of a Charge security over a property due to its Malay Reserve Land status, and representing a Kedah Local Authority at the Appellate Court in a complex land acquisition and compensation dispute.

Kenny has successfully represented major commercial clients across diverse sectors, including a prominent developer in an international lease tenancy dispute involving a foreign corporation. His expertise in professional negligence litigation was demonstrated in the landmark case of LOK KOK BENG & 49 ORS V LOH CHIA KEONG & ANOR [2015] 4MLJ734, which established important legal precedents regarding professional duty of care owed to property purchasers. He also successfully represented the project Architect at the State Commission Inquiry into the collapse of a retaining wall at the Granito Project.

Recent high-profile successes include serving as Lead Counsel in a widely reported corporate governance case that established that Directors cannot be retired and re-elected automatically without an Annual General Meeting. He also successfully defended the Kedah State Secretary against a substantial RM 310 million claim, showcasing his capabilities in defending significant public sector matters.

Kenny’s current appellate practice spans litigation in the fields of construction disputes, Judicial Review proceedings and Appeals Board on matters pertaining to development approvals, land use conditions and planning permissions in compliance with the Town and Country Planning Act 1976. His practice also extends to constitutional matters, including citizenship applications for stateless children where, together with Ho, Head of Family Law, he succeeded in obtaining citizenship for two (2) boys, reflecting his commitment to both commercial excellence and public interest advocacy.
